As you may already know if you follow me on Instagram, I’ve been working on a super fun project with Neutrogena over the past little while to celebrate the launch of their new Hydroboost cream (which is, by the way, the perfect thing for not-teenage-but-not-yet-“adult”-skin, like mine!). The whole project is about – you guessed it – transitions, from those epic teenage years onward. And you can rest assured I have an abundance of amazing/embarrassing stories from this time period!
A lot of these transitions happened from 16 onwards for me, and are still in the process of happening now – not just with my appearance and style, but with my mindset and life. Although I must admit, people are always shocked to learn of some of my past aesthetic choices (hi, nose ring and fire-engine red hair!). The road to minimalism and monochromaticness was a long and winding one, full of acrylic nails, hair extensions, and oversized hoop earrings.
Okay, but seriously, everyone makes questionable choices – fashion-related or not – as a young adolescent. The good part about this is that getting them out of our systems helps us to realize what we do and don’t like, and, ultimately, this is what helps us to transition into the person we are meant to become. (It took getting perms and eating chicken nuggets every day to make me realize that straight hair and being a vegetarian was my thing!)
I’ve talked about how drastically my life has changed in the last couple of years in past posts (and is still in the process of changing, methinks!). From graduating university to moving out into my first condo, it’s been a rollercoaster to say the least. But hey, isn’t that what makes life exciting? Well, that and flooding your kitchen with bubbles…more on that soon.
When you think about it, life is really all about changes – whatever is placed in front of us on any given day, good or bad, and how we deal with these things. Learning from them, growing from them…these are the things that define us and makes us the people we are. How crazy is that?
p.s. I honestly can’t wait for you guys to see the videos we shot for this…my infamous prom dress even makes an appearance in one of them. Stay tuned!
